West Brom have officially confirmed the signing of Semi Ajayi. Ajayi arrives at the Hawthorns from Rotherham United, who he has represented since 2017.

The 25-year-old centre-back has proven his quality at Championship level and will be hoping to cement his place in the heart of the Baggies’ defence this season. West Brom boss Slaven Bilic will certainly be looking to Ajayi to provide some discipline and authority in his back line.

Bilic faces a tough task this season, as he’ll be expected to get the Baggies competing for automatic promotion. A successful promotion campaign has to be built upon a solid defence. Ajayi has arrived to play a key role in those foundations.

Not only is the six-cap Nigeria international a player for the present though, he is also a long-term investment. Considering his age, he likely still has his best years ahead of him. Not only that, but he also has lots of potential to improve further. Should West Brom secure a return to the Premier League, Ajayi would be expected to be able to make the step up and shine in the top flight.
