West Bromwich Albion tried and failed to sign Club Brugge striker Emmanuel Dennis on Monday.

According to Belgian publication HLN, the Baggies were keen to land the 22-year-old but couldn’t get the deal done due to a work permit issue.

Albion will now need to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements, with the domestic window open until October 16.

It is thought the club’s top priority is still Karlan Grant from Huddersfield Town.

West Brom will hopefully be able to get somebody else in to make up for the failure over Dennis, who is a player with Champions League experience and scored twice against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu last season during the group stages of the competition to help Brugge to an unlikely 2-2 draw.

TBR’s View – A blow but West Brom mustn’t dawdle

West Brom’s failure to land Dennis is a blow – he would have potentially been a great fit in the Premier League given his pace and strength attributes.

But Albion will need to put the disappointment behind them and ensure they secure a goalscorer before the domestic deadline passes.

Grant appears to be the club’s focus and West Brom officials have got the ensure a deal gets done. He could end up being pricey, but former Championship star Ollie Watkins has made a fine start for Aston Villa, suggesting Grant could well make a similar sort of impact for the Baggies.
