West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has been congratulated by Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar following his call-up to the England team.
The 27-year-old, who used to play for the Red Devils, has been named by Gareth Southgate for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Johnstone has played all but one of West Brom’s 29 matches and has kept five clean sheets throughout the 2020-21 campaign.

Overall, he has been superb for the Baggies since joining in the summer of 2018 from Manchester United for a reported £6.5million fee.
Even though West Brom are in dire straits at present, Johnstone’s presence in between the sticks has given the club and fans hope for much of the campaign.
And Southgate has rewarded the Albion man with a call-up for the games against San Marino, Albania and Poland later this month.
Van der Sar, a former teammate of Johnstone’s at Old Trafford, appears to still be a big fan of the Baggies stopper:
Following the international break, Sam Allardyce’s charges are in Premier League action against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday 3 April.
