West Brom fans react to Matheus Pereira’s performance in narrow defeat to Leeds

It was Leeds United who came out on top in the heavyweight clash at the top of the Championship, beating West Brom 1-0 at Elland Road.

The visitors might have felt they were worth at least a point, enjoying periods of dominance, especially in the second half, but they couldn’t quite find that breakthrough.

Slaven Bilic has reshaped last season’s squad; Matheus Pereira is in on loan from Sporting and he made a huge impression on the supporters, even in defeat last night.

He was unable to follow up Saturday’s goalscoring performance against Queens Park Rangers with another strike on the road, but the Baggies faithful saw him as a huge positive on the night.

Marcelo Bielsa sides are not often pushed back, even less so on their own patch, but the fact they were last night at times owed plenty to the class of Pereira.

Baggies fans will remember the chasing they got last season at Elland Road and although they still went away with no points, their performance level was so much better that it should inspire confidence for the rest of the campaign.

Those automatic promotion hopes will be boosted if Pereira can stay fit and keep playing like this all season long, as the supporters’ reactions on Twitter testify.
