West Bromwich Albion strengthened their lead at the top of the Championship table with a comfortable 2-0 win over Preston North End at The Hawthorns – and Baggies fans have applauded captain Jake Livermore for his display.
West Brom came into the clash four points ahead of Leeds United and nine above third place, and they extended that lead with an easy win over Alex Neil’s side. The victory was made all the more safe when Preston was reduced to 10 men on 64 minutes.
Hal Robson-Kanu gave the Baggies the lead after controlling an excellent long ball from Callum Robinson, before sliding the ball home. Just before the half-time whistle, captain Livermore made it two.
Robinson continued his excellent start to life at West Brom against former side Preston, by playing a ball into the on-fire Robson-Kanu who set up Livermore to find the corner of the net with his weaker foot.
Livermore, who has now clocked up 127 appearances since moving to the Hawthorns, has missed just one league game all season and continues to shine in the middle of the park – scoring three goals and creating four.
West Brom fans reacted to the former Hull City and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder’s display on Twitter, with many applauding the England international. Some even suggested Gareth Southgate should be taking note.
No one has deserved a goal more than him, been absolutely brilliant this season #mycaptain
