West Brom struggle in attack against the top sides

This is the second time in a week that the Baggies have struggled to create clear cut opportunities against a top side. Although this isn’t a vintage Manchester United side, West Brom didn’t cause them too many problems and there appear to be limitations to how far Tony Pulis can take the team. They have had a fabulous season and are set for a top half finish, but this could be the most they can hope for, unless there is serious investment.

The new owners are set to put their money where their mouth is over the next few windows and there is potential for exciting times ahead. However, there remain doubts about whether Pulis is the right man to lead that spend. He is excellent at keeping teams in the league, but is he capable of taking a team into the top six or seven? Maybe not, there are limits to how far his style can go in the Premier League and it is most evident in matches like this. They were at home and should have created much more going forwards. It will be interesting to see how West Brom develop over the next 12 months, but this writer has doubts about Pulis and whether he can take them much further.
