Wesley Moraes impressed on his debut for Aston Villa without shining for Dean Smith’s side, as he fed off scraps against a hungry Tottenham Hotspur defence – and the striker has told a Villa fan he is trying to score his first goal.
Wesley, 22, joined Villa as one of 12 new signings made by the newly-promoted side. He arrived at Villa Park for a whopping £22.5million from Champions League side Club Brugge, who finished second in Belgium last season.
The Brazilian ace was crucial in Villa’s opening 2019-20 goal, as he held off the presence of Davinson Sanchez with relative ease – allowing John McGinn to race through and find the back of the net past Hugo Lloris.
He lasted 74 minutes, with the new Villa number nine becoming isolated in the second half as Villa looked to hold on. Asked on Instagram if he will score against Bournemouth on Saturday by a fan, Wesley responded.

TBR’s view – Wesley showing promising signs for Villa
Not only has Wesley scored goals and impressed through pre-season, as well as making a solid debut against Champions League finalists Tottenham – but he is also looking to create a rapport with fans.
They are all signs that the big striker is going to be a good signing for Villa, despite the enormous £22.5million paid for his services. Villa will be hoping Welsey can mirror the striker they last signed from Belgium – Christian Benteke.
