Wesley Fofana spoke to ActuFoot on Twitter Spaces yesterday and the young Frenchman shared a hilarious story on how Jamie Vardy welcomed him to Leicester City.

The Foxes signed Fofana from Saint-Etienne for a mammoth £36.5 million last year (Guardian). Brendan Rodgers’ side beat West Ham United for his signature, and the Frenchman became a real star for them.

Fofana hit the ground running in England last season. He started 27 games for Leicester in the Premier League and he was absolutely incredible. He took next to no time to settle, which was a surprise considering he was just 19.

The young defender was asked about how he was welcomed at Leicester and he shared a hilarious story that involved Vardy.

What Has Gone RIGHT At West Ham United?

How Jamie Vardy welcomed Wesley Fofana to Leicester City

It’s never easy for a teenager who speaks no English to come to a side where there’s nobody else of his nationality. Fofana took that brave step last season and Jamie Vardy welcomed him in typical Jamie Vardy fashion.

Fofana said last night: “My first training session in Leicester. Vardy comes in two-footed and takes me out.

“He gets up, laughs and says: ‘Welcome to England.’

“I said to myself ‘these guys are crazy!'”

A two-footed tackle in his very first training session was definitely not something Fofana would’ve expected, but that’s what he got. That, however, arguably helped him settle in a lot quicker than he otherwise would have.

At just 19 years of age, Fofana looked incredible last season. He was one of the biggest reasons why Leicester were so good in the early parts of the campaign, but the youngster sadly got injured in the summer.

Fofana hasn’t played a game this season and he is still a few weeks away from full fitness. He said last night that he’s hoping to be back by the end of December and that would be a huge boost for Rodgers and his Foxes side.
