Rangers take on Ayr in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final this evening. The Ibrox side are expected to make several changes for the game, with some of the club’s impressive youngsters called into the fold.
However, a more experienced man is also set for a chance. Wes Foderingham is expected to get a chance between the sticks for Rangers in the game.
The 27-year-old was an undisputed starter for Rangers under previous managers such as Mark Warburton and Graeme Murty.

However, new appointment Steven Gerrard obviously saw something of concern in the stopper and decided he would not be playing him regularly this season. Rangers brought in former stopper and current Scotland international Allan McGregor as the first-choice. Meanwhile, Jak Alnwick usurped Foderingham into the number two spot, before joining Scunthorpe on loan.
This week the Rangers back-up has been commenting on potentially making it back into the first-team fold.
“Obviously, three doesn’t go into two so there is going to be speculation there.
“My stance was always that I wanted to stay here and compete. I’ve got the opportunity to do that now and in the games I do play I need to do myself justice.”

However, he should really be using this as an opportunity to put himself in the shop window.
Rangers boss Gerrard is clearly never going to trust him as the regular number one, hence why he was so dramatically dropped at the start of the season.
Instead, Foderingham, who can surely command interest north and south of the border, must use this chance to highlight why he was Rangers’ number one option for such a long time. If he does that, then a new club might come calling in the winter.
