Mikel Arteta says Arsenal have made an absolutely 'enormous' signing

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised Gabriel Jesus for how quickly he’s adapted to life at the Emirates.

Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City earlier this summer for a reported £45million fee.

It brought Arteta’s long search for a new star striker to an end, and so far, he’s done incredibly well.

Jesus has scored a staggering seven goals for Arsenal in pre-season.

And on his Emirates debut last Saturday, he scored a hat-trick in the 6-0 hammering of Sevilla.

Jesus has considerable experience at Premier League level, having made 233 appearances for City.

And while Arteta called for patience over the Arsenal summer signing, he admits the early signs are positive.

“When you bring top players, they are coming from top clubs and they have been extremely successful over the years, they’re going to expect that,” he told the Gunners media team.

“The role that Gabby has here is going to be very different to the role that Gabby had in his previous club. That needs some adaptation and some time.

“He’s done it fantastically well and we’re all surprised how quickly he’s done it. But we have to share that responsibility

“He’s an enormous talent, a player with a mentality that is so contagious and he’s going to give us a lot, but it’s a team contribution at the end of the day.”

Jesus is likely to start for Arsenal in their Premier League opener away at Crystal Palace on Friday night.

Arsenal certainly appear to have made the right call in terms of their striker business this summer.

The Gunners came in for criticism after losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and not bringing in a replacement in January.

However, they waited for the right striker to come along. And they’ve duly snapped up one of the Premier League’s best forwards in Jesus.

The Brazil international knows the English top flight inside out, is a proven goalscorer, and is heading into his peak years.
