‘Weird’: David Seaman says £47m Man United player doesn’t look like he’s been coached properly

Andre Onana has been one of the biggest problems at Manchester United this season.

The goalkeeper has made error after error after his £47m move from Inter Milan in the summer, and he’s very much to blame for the Red Devils’ early European exit.

Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, David Seaman has now shared his verdict on the goalkeeper.

Seaman, of course, knows a lot about the art of goalkeeping, and it’s fair to say that the Arsenal legend isn’t so impressed with Onana’s technique.

Indeed, Seaman says that Onana’s shot-stopping technique is very strange, claiming that it looks as though he hasn’t been coached properly from a young age.

Onana doesn’t look like he’s been coached properly

Seaman spoke about the Manchester United goalkeeper’s technique.

“It’s a real mixed bag with Onana, he’s made some good saves, but he’s made some easy saves and tried to make them look good. He’s had some right stinkers as well. There’s too much other stuff there that worries me, he makes saves look good, his style is totally different, the way he makes saves is strange, it’s almost as if he’s not had a lot of coaching from a young age because he makes weird saves,” Seaman said.

Too unorthodox

There’s nothing wrong with being a bit of a maverick in football, but if there’s any position where you can’t take risks, it’s in goal.

Onana is way too unorthodox in his style. He makes these strange saves, and you can never back him to just make a straightforward catch.

Onana is clearly talented. After all, he was fantastic for Inter Milan last season, but when you’re playing at the very top level and your confidence is lacking, you can’t be playing in this way.

Manchester United need to figure out this situation, because, at the moment, their goalkeeper is costing them games way too often.
