‘We spoke’: ‘Phenomenal’ player says it only took two days for him to decide to sign for Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of Ivan Perisic just before the window opened and the player has told Sky Sports News that it only took him two days to sign for the club.
The veteran wing-back sealed his move to North London back in May after leaving Inter Milan on a free transfer.
And having played under boss Antonio Conte at the Nerazzurri, it could end up being one of the signings of the summer.
The ‘phenomenal’ Perisic has an impressive collection of trophies under his belt, including a Champions League winners medal, and will be looking to bring this experience to Spurs.
Perisic took two days to sign for Tottenham
Despite leaving a huge club in Inter Milan, Perisic told Sky Sports News that it didn’t take him long to sign for Spurs.
“When they (Tottenham) won against Arsenal, it was obvious that maybe they were going to reach the Champions League,” he said.
“Like I’ve said, I’ve always wanted to play Champions League and my wish was also to try and come to the Premier League.
“When they reached the Champions League, we spoke and it was done in two days.”
Perisic could be key for Conte this season
Despite being 33-years-old, Perisic enjoyed one his best campaigns to date for Inter last season as he played in the left wing-back role.
The Croatian scored 10 goals and put up nine assists in all competitions. These numbers will excite Spurs fans as Conte relies on his wing-back heavily in terms of productivity.
Conte actually converted Perisic into wing-back during his time at the San Siro, so he’s a player that the Italian will know well.
As the deal was apparently completed in two days, it’s clear that Perisic had no doubts about reuniting with his former boss at Spurs and he could become a key component in the team this season.
The Croatia international was handed his first start in pre-season last weekend against Roma after coming back from an injury that he suffered in his last game for Inter.
Perisic will be hoping to get the nod over Ryan Sessegnon this Saturday as Spurs kick-off their Premier League campaign against Southampton.
