Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have revealed that Ian Wright believed Andy Robertson was a fantastic full-back even before he joined Liverpool.

The Scotsman is arguably the best left-back in the Premier League. He has been brilliant since joining the Reds from Hull City, but not many people really believed he was good enough before he made his big move.

Shearer revealed that he and Lineker had a go at Wright years ago for calling Robertson ‘fantastic’ just before he had a very poor game at Hull City.

Fast forward to 2021, the Arsenal legend has been proven right.

Lineker and Shearer: Ian Wright was right about Andy Robertson

He said while speaking to Gary Lineker about Robertson on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast: “Awesome, what a signing, what a signing. Do you remember he was rated by Wrighty?

Lineker jumped in saying: “We were sat in the studio, watching a Hull game and Wrighty said ‘I really like this left-back, this Robertson kid is fantastic’.

“He had a shocker in this game, and we ripped into Wrighty, saying ‘what do you know about full-backs?’ It was probably the only bad game he has had since then. Mr Wright has been proven right.”

Robertson has been fantastic

After suffering relegation with Hull City, Liverpool surprised everyone by signing Robertson. It was a straightforward deal as no other big club fancied him. All the other top sides will be kicking themselves now.

In 186 appearances for Liverpool, Robertson has scored five goals and has assisted a staggering 39 times in all competitions. He played a huge part in helping the Reds win the Premier League and the Champions League, and there’s a big chance he’ll win plenty more in the coming years.

Wright was laughed at for his prediction all those years ago, but he has definitely been proven right.
