Some Aston Villa fans have suggested that they made an error letting Pierluigi Gollini go, as he looks to return to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur.
A return to England
Fabrizio Romano confirmed last night that Tottenham were on the verge of signing the Atalanta goalkeeper.
Gollini could well arrive as Tottenham’s number one, just three years after he left Villa.
And some claret and blues fans think that their mistake of giving up on him too easily has become clear now.
Villa reaction
In fairness to Villa, Gollini did make a shaky start when offered opportunities in their side in the Championship.
However, if Steve Bruce had shown a bit more patience they may well have benefitted from seeing Gollini develop.
Instead, the 26-year-old was sold to Atalanta, where he has become one of the best stoppers in Serie A.
Villa, meanwhile, have managed to purchase Emiliano Martinez – meaning they still have one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League in between the sticks for them, although he did cost them a sizeable amount more than Gollini.
