Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Newcastle released a statement explaining their lack of signings during the transfer window.

What’s the story?

Well, the Magpies only made one new signing over the summer, spending £25m to bring Joe Willock back to Tyneside.

Santiago Muñoz also arrived, although he will go into the Under-23 setup.

For a side who were nearly relegated last season, one new addition isn’t good enough, hence the uproar which led to the statement.

In fact, it could even be argued that Newcastle haven’t actually improved, as Willock spent the second half of last season on loan at St James’ Park.

Now, Liverpool fans want their club to come out with an official statement as well, explaining the reason for their own quiet transfer window.

The Reds made just one signing in Ibrahima Konate, who arrived from RB Leipzig for £36m.

Both sides have different aspirations, although Liverpool still owe it to the supporters to explain the thinking behind a lack of transfer business.

Liverpool finished third in their defence of the Premier League title, finishing 17 points behind Manchester City.

That simply isn’t good enough, and many expected Jürgen Klopp’s side to make a real statement by improving their squad.

For what it’s worth, Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic also left, while Ben Davies and Rhys Williams joined Sheffield United and Swansea on loan respectively.

If Liverpool came out and explained themselves, perhaps the anger around the fanbase would ease slightly.

In truth, it would be nice if every club released a statement to inform supporters of the finer details behind transfer activity.

For now, let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about Newcastle’s statement…
