'We missed out': Some Liverpool fans wowed by £23m striker's European display last night
Liverpool were linked with Patson Daka earlier this year.
Zamfoot reported in June that the Reds held talks with the 23-year-old’s camp about a possible deal.
However, Daka ended up snubbing Liverpool and other English teams to join Leicester in a reported £23million deal.
Game time was the main reason why the Zambia international opted to join Liverpool’s Premier League rivals.
It was suggested that Daka would’ve been used as a fringe player at Anfield to begin with, which wouldn’t have sat well if true.
The striker scored 34 goals in 42 appearances last season to help Red Bull Salzburg to the Austrian title.
That said, Daka hasn’t had much game time at Leicester either, with just two Premier League appearances off the bench.
All of Daka’s starts for his new side have come in the Europa League.
But on Wednesday, he may have just given Brendan Rodgers reason to start him in the top flight too.
When the Group C game against Spartak Moscow kicked off, Daka had one Foxes goal to his name – by full time, he had five.
Daka scored all four of his side’s goals to help them win 4-3 and return to the East Midlands with all three points.
It was a must-win match for Leicester, who were joint-bottom of Group C after two matches.
And they didn’t start well, going two down by the 44th minute due to goals from Aleksandr Sobolev and Jordan Larsson.
However, Daka halved the deficit with the final kick of the first half.
He then hauled Leicester level three minutes after the restart and then completed his first hat-trick for the club on 54 minutes to seal the Foxes’ remarkable turnaround.
As if that wasn’t enough, Daka got a fourth 11 minutes from time and, though Sobolev grabbed his second on 86 minutes, the visitors held on.
Some Liverpool fans who were following proceedings were gutted that they couldn’t bring him to Anfield:
