For about an hour on Tuesday evening, speculation emerged linking Everton and Jose Mourinho.

Sky Sports reported that Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri had the 58-year-old on his shortlist.

However, Mourinho himself appears to have quickly poured cold water on Everton’s apparent interest.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol shared the following update on air (18/1/22, 19:04).

“An hour ago we reported Jose was under consideration to be the next Everton manager,” he said.

“We have an update, and can say confidently there is no way Mourinho is going to leave Roma.

“He’s fully committed to Roma and is fully backed by the owners and club, and has great support and trust from the club’s fans.

“As far as he is concerned, he’s fully committed to the job he has started at Roma and won’t consider any offers from other clubs at the moment.

“He’s only six months into a three-year project, and wants to stay in the Italian capital.”

Everton are currently on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Rafa Benitez last week.

The Toffees parted company with the Spaniard after just six-and-a-half months in charge at Goodison Park.

Everton have won just once in the Premier League since September and are 16th in the Premier League table.

A numbe of managers have been linked with the Toffees reins, including Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard.

Sky Sports claim that former Porto and Fenerbahce manager Vitor Pereira is also in the hat for the Everton job.

He was reportedly in the running for the Toffees hotseat before Carlo Ancelotti took the reins.

Duncan Ferguson is currently in interim charge of Everton.
