‘We have an advantage’: Angus Kinnear explains why Leeds could eventually land Ben White

Leeds United chief executive, Angus Kinnear, has insisted that the club are right in the mix to land Ben White on a permanent deal, should Brighton decide to sell.

The Whites are seeking to bring White back to Elland Road on a permanent basis following his excellent loan spell last season in West Yorkshire. Indeed, Sky Sports claimed a £22m bid was rejected for defender just yesterday.

But, while it appears Brighton are keen on keeping their man, Kinnear believes that the Whites hold an advantage if a bid is eventually accepted by the Seagulls. He told Leeds Live:

“We know they rate him very highly. We know other clubs rate him very highly. We have an advantage in Ben loves the club.

“He’s loved playing for the club. He loves his team-mates. He knows he’s going to get game time under Marcelo.”

White is expected to be a man in-demand this summer. The Daily Mail claimed just yesterday that Chelsea is also among the contenders for the defender, along with Liverpool.

And that is something Kinnear has acknowledged in his comments, too.

“We have a small competitive advantage there, but ultimately, we’re now going to be fighting with some big names for his signature.”

Unless someone comes along with a mammoth offer, all the indications are that White will stay at the AMEX.

Graham Potter clearly rates him and his spell at Leeds was exactly what the Brighton manager wanted it to be. We don’t see it as much in football now, but the point of a loan spell is to prove you are good enough and get experience.

White has done that and now the Premier League should beckon for him in the blue and white of Brighton, which, ultimately, is not the news Leeds fans will want to hear.
