Newcastle United remain in pursuit of Diego Carlos and are “in the driving seat”, according to Kaveh Solhekol.
The Sky Sports journalist has now claimed that the Magpies-linked defender feels he has “almost a gentleman’s agreement” with Sevilla.
Carlos has reportedly told his club about his desire to make a January move to St James’ Park.

However, Sevilla appear to be playing hard-ball over his signature.
According to Marca, the Spanish outfit is holding out for an “off-market” bid for Carlos.
As far as they’re concerned, it ‘doesn’t matter what Diego thinks’, and if they don’t get the right offer, they won’t sell.
“Newcastle are still in the driving seat”
Earlier on Wednesday, Sky Sports revealed that one of Newcastle’s Premier League rivals have also bid for Carlos.
Later on in the day (19/1/22, 19:18), Solhekol relayed a further update on the Carlos to St James’ Park saga.
“We got more information today that the player wants to move to Newcastle,” he said.
“I think there is some suggestion, although this hasn’t been confirmed, that Carlos feels like he has some sort of promise from Sevilla.
“Almost a gentleman’s agreement – that if a big club came in for him and offered a life-changing contract, then Sevilla wouldn’t stand in his way as along as their valuation was met.

“I think he feels Newcastle tick a lot of those boxes, which is why he wants to move.
Solhekol then touched upon the rival Premier League bid, which “matches what Newcastle have offered”.
He also commented on an Italian club’s reported offer, which was apparently below £30million.
Solhekol finished by saying Newcastle fans shouldn’t be overly concerned.
“Newcastle are still in the driving seat,” he said. “Lots of people involved in the deal are trying to make it happen.
“I wouldn’t be worried if I was a Newcastle fan because this is a transfer window and he’s a very good player, other clubs are always going to be interested.
“But I guess it is a bit of a concern that someone else is coming in for him as well.”
In addition, Carlos is in the starting XI for Sevilla to face Valencia tonight.
