‘We can’t miss out’: Some Arsenal fans react to ‘incredible’ 22-year-old’s display last night

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Houssem Aouar’s display for Lyon in the French League Cup final, as well as urging the Gunners to make a move this summer.

The 22-year-old has come through the ranks at the Groupama Stadium and has developed into one of the top young midfielders in Europe over the past few years.

Despite his young age, Aouar has clocked up an impressive 134 senior appearances for Lyon, with 24 goals and 24 assists under his belt already.

Pep Guardiola previously told Sky Sports in 2018 following a Champions League game between Manchester City and Lyon: “Houssem Aouar is a very good player. He is incredible.

“We talk a lot about Ndombele, but Aouar is also excellent. He’s always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality.

This season, the France Under-21 ace made 38 appearances for Lyon, scoring nine goals and claiming seven assists.

Aouar has been linked with Arsenal for a number of months, the Daily Mail claiming in February that he had “admirers in the red half of north London”.

In mid-June, meanwhile, 90Min wrote an article about the “five clubs he’s most likely to move to”, with the Gunners on the list for the £45million-rated player.

However, Arsenal could have a battle on their hands – as reported by RMC Sport in June, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool remain active regarding a potential swoop.

Lyon finished seventh in Ligue 1 after the season was curtailed, and have now lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties in the last French League Cup final, with Aouar converting a spot kickand linking up well with Bruno Guimaraes.

As a result, they face a first season without European football since 1996-97, unless they win this season’s Champions League.
