A player linked with West Bromwich Albion during the January transfer window has officially made a decision on his future.
According to a report in The Sun from 29 January (print, page 56), the Baggies were set to make a late bid for Queens Park Rangers winger Bright Osayi-Samuel.
The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for the London side this season, netting five goals and claiming five assists from 25 Championship games (Transfermarkt).
The Sun report claimed that West Brom saw Osayi-Samuel as a player capable of breathing fresh life into their stuttering promotion campaign.
Premier League side Burnley were also linked with the pacey ace, and would have been able to offer him an immediate step up to the top flight.
In the end, nothing came of the reports, and on Wednesday, QPR confirmed that Osayi-Samuel was one of two players who had signed a new contract at the club.
When he joined from Blackpool in 2017 he had penned a three-year deal but his new contract will take him to the summer of 2021 (QPR website).

Osayi-Samuel may have impressive goal and assist stats but that doesn’t tell the full story – his pace and trickery has proven the thorn in the side of many an opposition defence this season.
“Today he was outstanding and deserved the applause,” QPR boss Mark Warburton told the Kilburn Times after Osayi-Samuel inspired a 6-1 thrashing of Cardiff City.
“I’m not sure many teams have that blistering pace. As long as he knows how to use it and that’s the key for him learning the game.”
In addition, he can play on either flank and has also been used as a striker in the past, as noted in this Birmingham Mail scouting report from 2017 when he was linked with the Villans.
However, a new contract doesn’t necessarily mean the end of any purported interest, given it only takes Osayi-Samuel to the end of next season.
Particularly if West Brom make it into the Premier League, they would be perfectly placed to make a move – the Baggies would have the funds for it, and the player would have the prospect of top-flight football awaiting him.
