There have been tons of big moves in the Premier League during this summer transfer window already.

Indeed, Florian Wirtz has joined Liverpool. Viktor Gyokeres has joined Arsenal, while Manchester City have signed numerous new players.

With the season almost upon us, we can start to decipher who the signing of the summer has been.

Gyokeres and Wirtz are certainly contenders for signing of the summer, but speaking on his podcast, Wayne Rooney has suggested that Manchester United have actually made the signing of the summer.

Wayne Rooney says Benjamin Sesko could be signing of the summer

Rooney was asked to name who he thinks has been the signing of the summer.

Interestingly, the pundit claimed that Benjamin Sesko could be the signing of the summer, claiming that the striker could be headed to the very top.

Sesko was linked to Arsenal before signing for United.

“There’s been some big money signings. Who do you think has got the best deal so far?” Rooney was asked.

“Do you know what? I really like Sesko. I think he’s going to be top,” Rooney said.

“I do. I like him, I think, because all his attributes. He’s big, he can head the ball, he’s strong, he’s quick, he can use both feet.

“But going into Manchester United is different than going anywhere and there’s a big pressure.”

Benjamin Sesko stats last season

Rooney says Sesko could be the signing of the summer, but it’s hard to agree.

Indeed, when you look at the numbers from last season, it’s fair to say that Sesko may not represent amazing value for United.

£74m for a player who scored 13 Bundesliga goals last season isn’t amazing value. In comparison, Omar Marmoush scored more Bundesliga goals than Sesko last season and he only played half a campaign before joining Manchester City for £59m.

Sesko could be a roaring success at Manchester United in years to come. After all, he’s only 22, but, at the moment, it’s hard to say that United have found a great value signing here.
