Wayne Rooney seems amazed by one player who Arsenal are said to be interested in signing this summer.

The Gunners are on the market looking for reinforcements in multiple areas of their pitch. Mikel Arteta needs a few quality additions to have any chance of winning the Premier League title in the 2024/25 season.

Edu Gaspar is hard at work behind the scenes at the Emirates, and Arsenal fans can’t wait to see who their side will sign in the coming weeks.

One player who has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates has now earned some huge praise from Manchester United legend Rooney.

The former England captain has also sent a warning to the Three Lions ahead of the Euro 2024 final on Sunday.

Wayne Rooney explains why Arsenal target Nico Williams reminds him of Cristiano Ronaldo

Rooney is one of the greatest players English football has ever seen.

The former Manchester United and Everton man was absolutely unbelievable on his day. He won five Premier League titles and a Champions League and is just a hero to many fans of the Old Trafford club.

Along with being a world-class player, Rooney rubbed shoulders with several big names during his time at Manchester United.

The Englishman played with a number of superstars, but the biggest one is probably Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rooney spent many years with Ronaldo and saw him develop from a youngster to one of the best players in the history of the game.

Now, the Plymouth Argyle manager has spotted another player who has reminded him of Ronaldo – Nico Williams, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal.

Speaking ahead of the Euro 2024 final between England and Spain, Rooney told The Times: “Williams, for me, is exceptional. He reminds me of Cristiano Ronaldo when Cristiano was young.

“He’s a big lad, he’ll take the ball and sometimes tries too much but usually makes the right decisions. He is an incredible threat in one-on-one situations and scores goals as well.

“England need to be really careful with him.”

Williams will solve two key problems at Arsenal

Arsenal are on the market for a new attacker this summer.

The Gunners were keen on a new striker earlier in the window. They tried to get Benjamin Sesko but he rejected a move to Arsenal.

There aren’t many centre-forwards in the market who are both affordable and good enough to play for the Gunners, so Arteta could just decide to strengthen the wide areas instead.

Williams, who has a £50 million release clause (Standard), would be perfect – not just on the left wing where he can compete with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard but on the opposite side as well, so that he can push Bukayo Saka.

That would solve two problems for the Gunners, and he could really thrive under Arteta. Adrian Clarke even claimed that Williams would be a game-changing signing for Arsenal

However, as things stand, it looks like Williams wants to join Barcelona.
