Wayne Rooney has told Derbyshire Live that he remains committed to Derby County, amid reports he wants to take over at Newcastle United.
Rooney, 35, has guided his Derby side to a run of four league games unbeaten, as the Rams look to escape relegation this season.
The club suffered a 12-point deduction, leaving them rock bottom. With those 12 points, they would be sitting in 13th – losing just three of 13.
The Chronicle reported this week that Rooney – who managed only his 51st games on Tuesday night – is ready to take over at Newcastle.
The front runners include Eddie Howe, Lucien Favre and Paulo Fonseca. But Rooney has also been linked with a move to Newcastle.
Steve Bruce could face the axe any second, after watching his side struggle against Tottenham. But Rooney declared his loyalty to Derby.

“I saw that this morning [Tuesday],” Rooney said. “From my point of view I cannot stop speculation, I get that.
“But I have had no contact at all with Newcastle United and obviously, as I have stated before, I am committed to this football club.”
Rooney to Newcastle: Could he be left-field appointment they need?
In his short spell at Derby, Rooney has shown loyalty, commitment and hard work. That will stand him in good stead going forward.
The reputation, calibre of Rooney – Manchester United’s leading goalscorer – will also convince players to join Newcastle, alongside the money.
However, he lacks experience, he lacks the tactical awareness and he is yet to experience the Premier League as a manager.
When it comes to appointing a gaffer, Newcastle’s new owners will surely want someone with a bit more on their managerial CV.
