‘Moved up a gear’: Wayne Rooney says there’re three Arsenal players who are so much better than last year, ahead of United clash

Arsenal take on Manchester United in the Premier League today in what already feels like a massive clash in the 22/23 season.

For Arsenal, it’s a chance to go six games in a row picking up three points and a victory would see them go four in front of Manchester City, who dropped points at Aston Villa yesterday. For United, it’s a chance for them to jump into the top four and put themselves right back in the mix at the right end of the table.

Of course, United beating Arsenal will not be easy. The Gunners are in a confident mood this season and will fancy their chances of walking into Old Trafford and taking all three points. Indeed, some of their young players are in the form of their lives. And according to Wayne Rooney, there is a trio of Gunners stars who United need to be wary of today.

“It looks like last season was a great learning experience for the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Martinelli. Those three have moved up a gear,” Rooney wrote in his column for The Times.

Odegaard has been made captain this season while Martinelli is keeping Emile Smith Rowe out of the fold. Saka, meanwhile, remains the key man and the Gunners hope to tie him down to a new contract soon.

TBR’s View: Arsenal Trio Key For United Clash

There feels like a bit more spice to this one than there has been in previous years. United are trying to build under Ten Hag while Arsenal are becoming an early season juggernaut under Mikel Arteta.

It’s a throwback to the older days when United played Arsenal and it should be a fine game.

As for Rooney’s comments, well, he is bang on. Odegaard, Saka and Martinelli have massively benefitted from playing last season and are now key for the Gunners. If they get anything today, then it’s probably because that trio have played well.
