'Really talented': Wayne Rooney names two Arsenal stars among four who could win it all in Qatar
Wayne Rooney has been writing about all things World Cup related in his latest column for The Times and claims Arsenal have two potential winners.
Rooney starred for England in football’s biggest tournament and the former Derby manager is a keen onlooker at this year’s event in Qatar.
Starting this weekend, the World Cup will once again showcase the best talent in the world of football. And writing in his column for The Times, Rooney believes Arsenal duo Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli are among four Brazilian players who can lead the Selecao to glory.
“It’s always exciting watching Brazil. Growing up I loved watching them with Romario and Ronaldo. Now, they don’t have as many players with the same status but they have some really talented individuals like Vinícius Jr, Gabriel Jesus, Antony and Gabriel Martinelli,” Rooney said.
“Brazil will always have a chance but with them, anything can happen. They could go out in the group stages or they could win it.”
Martinelli was one of the surprise call ups to the squad in the end. Despite being in fine form for Arsenal, many had assumed he might not make the final cut in Tite’s squad.
TBR’s View: Martinelli and Jesus can light up the World Cup for Brazil
Both Arsenal players come into this tournament in fine form and both can have a big impact, as Rooney hints here.
Martinelli in particular is one to watch. He’s having the time of his life in north London and if Tite selects him, he could be a real bright spark for Brazil.
Of course, the Brazilian attacking talent on display is quite frightening. The likes of Neymar, Antony and Vinicius could fly, and in the end, Brazil might just be too good to stop.
Martinelli and Jesus will be buzzing for the opening Brazil game. Arsenal fans, then, can be excited by about what they might be about to witness.
