Jurgen Klopp took his Liverpool side to Vicarage Road on the opening day of last season and what followed set the tone for the Reds’ season.
The topsy-turvy 3-3 draw underlined what Liverpool were last time around; potent in at attack but with a defence that couldn’t be trusted to keep out even a relatively modest attack.
But on Saturday, Klopp oversaw a reasonably straight-forward 3-0 win on the exact same ground and that underlines the scale of Liverpool’s improvement this season.
The German has managed to maintain his side’s attacking verve and ability to trouble any side but has tightened them up defensively.

While that attack thrillingly hauled the Reds into the final of the Champions League last term, a more sturdy defensive bedrock was always going to be needed to maintain a title chase.
It looks as if Klopp has that now and the contrast between the two defensive units he has deployed on his last two visits to Vicarage Road underline the transformation he has overseen.
Perhaps it is the attack that is now causing Klopp a headache but a three-goal away win is not to be sniffed at; the signs are that Liverpool are the real deal now.
