West Ham completed the signing of Watford defender Craig Dawson on a season-long loan on Monday night – and some of the Hornets fans on Twitter have reacted to the news.
The Hammers announced yesterday that they have signed the 30-year-old on loan for the rest of this season.
West Ham have managed to strengthen their options in defence, which is an area they have looked a little thin on the ground.
Dawson, 30, is a no-nonsense defender that is a centre-back by trade, but has the versatility to slot into right-back as well.
The Englishman was part of a Watford side that suffered relegation last season from the Premier League to the Championship, but he’s been a key player at Vicarage Road for a number of years.
He’s played 182 times in the Premier League and the majority of that was spent with West Brom.
Despite being regarded as an aggressive old school defender, he’s also proven he can be a major goal threat going forward and he’s scored 42 goals in his senior career.
A selection of Watford supporters on social media have given their opinion on Dawson’s temporary departure and the overriding response is that they are glad to offload him, which could be an ominous sign for David Moyes’ West Ham.
He had a difficult time last season with the Hornets during their relegation and isn’t the most mobile, but he’s got a chance to try reignite his career at the London Stadium and he’s still aged just 30.
Here are some Watford fans discussing Dawson’s loan exit:
Please make it permanent 🙏🏼

Sadly doubt they will take up the buying option but who knows ..

NOOOOOOO MAKE IT PERMANENT

Whoever at the club thought Dawson was the answer to our defensive issues needs sacking. But then again it’s probably the same person who thought Marriappa was Premier League quality. No wonder we got relegated.

Take him on a perm, we don’t want him, cheers lads @WestHam

That’s one way to make sure West Ham get relegated
