Shaqiri shines for The Potters

Mark Hughes had to overcome something of a selection crisis prior to his side’s victory against Watford. The Stoke manager was forced into making five changes from the previous weekend, was without a host of players due to injury and suspension, and had to select a bench which included two youth team players and no defenders. However, despite the changes The Potters produced a measured performance that saw them shackled the home side whilst creating the best goal scoring opportunities in the contest.

Xherdan Shaqiri was once again the star performer for the visitors. Operating in a more central position the Swiss international was at the heart of each offensive move created by Stoke with his skill, pace and creativity always proving to be a threat. He produced a number of moments of breath-taking skill and buzzed around the pitch with purpose and confidence. Shaqiri is beginning to demonstrate why he has been courted by some of European football’s biggest clubs and is showing signs that he may well be one of the most exciting prospects in the Premier League.
