Leeds United youngster Charlie Cresswell has penned a new contract at Elland Road – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have given a positive response to the confirmed news.

The Whites announced on their official website on Thursday evening that the 18-year-old has committed his future to the Yorkshire club by signing a fresh deal with them.

Cresswell, who is a regular in the club’s Under-23s side, has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal after an impressive start to the season.

The English defender is a key player at youth level, but did also make his first-team debut earlier in the season against Hull City in the Carabao Cup and is someone with massive potential to try fulfil.

He is a ball-playing centre-back that fits the bill of a modern defender in possession, as well as being strong in the air and a leader on the pitch.

Senior Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has proven during his two years in charge that he’s happy to promote the academy stars to his side if they are good enough and Cresswell is surely someone on his radar, albeit there are a number of centre-back options at his disposal.
