Was this the moment Liverpool lost the race to sign Adrien Rabiot?

Adrien Rabiot will reportedly snub a move to Liverpool this summer and instead join Real Madrid.

According to The Mirror, the Frenchman and los Blancos have come to a verbal agreement for the player to come to the Bernabeu when his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires.

The French champions had supposedly put numerous lucrative offers to Rabiot, but the player seems set on a change of scenery.

The Reds have been frequently linked with Rabiot’s services, as have Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur, but it looks as though Madrid may have won this particular battle.

TBR’s view

If Liverpool are genuinely interested in Rabiot then it’s a big blow for Jurgen Klopp, with Rabiot a fine technical player with bags of top flight experience.

It is interesting that Real appear to be in pole position for the player. Arguably it is the appointment Zinedine Zidane that has swung it for the Champions League holders.

The legend returned to the club as manager last month, and seems set to overhaul the squad this summer.

According to The Mirror, Zidane is a long-term admirer of Rabiot, and the publication report that the player is ‘eager’ to work under his fellow countryman.

It would be interesting to see what the situation would be if former boss Santiago Solari was still in charge – perhaps Liverpool would still be in with a shout of getting him.
