Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has provided an injury update ahead of Saturday’s trip to Newcastle United.
As reported by the club’s official Twitter account, Southampton defender Jannik Vestergaard is an injury doubt for the game at St James’ Park

The importance of Saturday’s game cannot be understated. After Cardiff City beat Brighton in midweek, the relegation battle has been blown wide open again.
Hasenhuttl’s men are in a commanding position but they will still be peering over their shoulders. Just five points separate them from the drop zone.
If the Saints beat Newcastle on Saturday, they will leapfrog their opponents and jump to 39 points, which will surely preserve their Premier League status.
But losing Vestergaard is a major blow. The 6ft 6in centre-back has been transformed under Hasenhuttl and has played a major role in Southampton’s revival.
Hasenhuttl will hope the Denmark international passes his late fitness test. Here are some tweets from Southampton fans discussing Vestergaard’s possible absence.
