Warren Barton has reacted on Twitter after Sky Sports claimed that German striker Timo Werner is ready to join Liverpool if they activate his RB Leipzig release clause before June 15 – and Barton has urged Newcastle to rival The Reds.
Werner, 24, has long been linked with a move to Liverpool and has been in stunning form for Leipzig this season. Not only has he found the back of the net 27 times in just 36 matches, but the German has also laid on a whopping 12 assists.
Like Jadon Sancho and Kylian Mbappe, Werner is one of the big names being linked with Jurgen Klopp’s side and Sky Sports claim Werner is ready to sign on the dotted line – if the Reds activate his £52million clause before June 15.
But former Newcastle defender Barton, who turned out for The Toon for seven years between 1995 and 2002, reacted to the reports by urging Newcastle to rival Klopp’s side for Werner’s signature in the coming weeks.

TBR’s view – Werner would be a stunning signing, but little chance
That is because Liverpool have got everything, and more, to offer Werner. Expected to be crowned Premier League champions and the current Champions League holders, Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp is an exciting prospect.
Werner has been expected to join Liverpool for quite some time and it seems as though a deal could finally come to fruition over the coming weeks. Yes, he would be a top signing for Newcastle, but Werner looks as though he is on his way to Anfield.
