Paul Merson has given his score prediction for the Premier League fixture between Aston Villa and Wolves on Saturday.

The Villans sit 10th in the table on 10 points, while their West Midlands rivals are just a point and two places behind.

However, Dean Smith’s charges lost their last game before the international break, while Bruno Lage’s charges won last time out.

Villa fell to a 2-1 defeat to Spurs, while Wolves beat Newcastle by that same scoreline.

Smith confirmed at his Friday press conference that Leon Bailey is out, Bertrand Traore is being assessed for a thigh injury, and Keinan Davis and Morgan Sanson are back in training.

Meanwhile, Wolves winger Francisco Trincao is still only training at home after testing positive for covid during the international break.

A derby game between two evenly-matched teams is always an exciting proposition, and Merson is looking ahead to it.

He reckons his former side will pick up a 2-1 win at Villa Park.

“Oooh, good game again! Aston Villa, in my opinion, are waiting to explode,” he wrote on Sportskeeda.

“I always keep saying that when you play the likes of Brighton and Aston Villa in the Premier League and come away with three points, they are really good wins.

“Wolves miss way too many chances for my liking, although Raul Jimenez seems to be back in form.

“The goal he scored against Southampton was absolutely mindblowing, but this is a big derby game and I’m going to go for a Villa win.”
