Vitor Reis names the Man City defender he has to ‘listen to’ and jokes he will teach Erling Haaland one thing

Manchester City have announced the signing of Vitor Reis from Palmeiras.

This season, Pep Guardiola’s men have struggled defensively — conceding 29 goals in 22 Premier League games — which has prompted them to sign Abdukodir Khusanov and Reis.

Manchester City confirmed Khusanov’s move to the Etihad Stadium on Monday.

The Brazilian’s talent is no mystery to some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Arsenal viewed Reis as the next William Saliba and tried to sign him before he chose to sign for Manchester City.

Several Premier League clubs were keen on Reis’ signing as well and his move to City has left them feeling frustrated.

Vitor Reis promises to listen to Ruben Dias as he joins Man City

Real Madrid scouted Reis in October as well as they intended to sign him, having infiltrated the South American market in the past by signing the likes of Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo Goes, Federico Valverde and Endrick at a young age. However, Real Madrid questioned Reis’ defensive ability in wide areas, prompting them not to sign him.

Now that the 19-year-old has signed for Manchester City, Vitor Reis was asked by the club’s in-house media: “You’ll be playing alongside very experienced defenders such as Ruben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji. What do you think you can learn from them to develop here?”

Reis revealed that with £62 million (Sky Sports) man Ruben Dias, he will especially take the former Benfica defender’s advice who is widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the world.

“I have a lot to learn from them here, they’re elite, they’re the best players in the world. Especially Ruben, with him speaking Portuguese, I’ve got to listen to everything he says.”

“So, yes, I have a lot to learn!”

Chelsea and Arsenal scouted Reis, who has become City’s second signing of the winter window — exemplifying how many clubs were after his signature.

Manchester City expect to sign Omar Marmoush imminently while Erling Haaland has signed a nine-and-half-year contract at the Etihad Stadium in what has been a month where they have been aggressively ambitious.

Speaking of Erling Haaland, Reis was also asked: “With you in the squad, City has now three Brazilians and three Portuguese players as well as Oscar Bobb, who speaks Portuguese.”

“Do you think with you adding to the ranks, we’ll hear [Erling] Haaland speak Portuguese?”

Reis jokingly replied: “Yeah, he’s got to learn it now! I can help teach him. I didn’t know Oscar speaks Portuguese, that’s great!”

Manchester City opened talks to sign Reis earlier this month and have promptly completed his signing.
