Arsenal suffered a defeat at Newcastle today as star players Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka were shut down completely by the Mags.
The Gunners conceded from a controversial Anthony Gordon goal that caused Mikel Arteta to rage after the game. The Arsenal boss saying he was ‘embarrassed‘ for the goal to be given in the Premier League.
Arteta, of course, was a frustrated figure and his emotions did get the better of him in that presser.
However, his own players were as much to blame for the performance and result. And watching on for the BBC, former Newcastle winger Chris Waddle said he felt both Martinelli and Saka did nothing all game.
Pundit claims Saka and Martinelli offered nothing v Newcastle
Commentating on the game for the BBC, Waddle made a few observations throughout the game.
One of which came on Martinelli and Saka, with Waddle believing the Arsenal duo simply didn’t offer enough.
“Martinelli is really starting to get frustrated, he’s not had any joy whatsoever against either Livramento or Trippier. Saka on the other side too, Newcastle have reduced their influence to virtually nothing in this game,” Waddle said.

Arsenal will be disappointed to not have taken something from the game on a day when Manchester City hammered six past Bournemouth.
More needed in big games from Arsenal’s main men
Today was as much about Newcastle defending so well as it was Arsenal’s key players going missing a bit.
However, you do have to say that Arsenal weren’t fully at the races and their top players simply didn’t do it in the big moments.
Saka himself had a big chance in the first half which Gary Neville pointed out he should have done better with.
Martinelli, meanwhile, was quiet by his normal standards and will want to do so much better.
Arsenal will be so annoyed today over numerous things. But in the end, they didn’t do enough to win the game and got punished.
