Virgil van Dijk has been quoted by Liverpool’s official Twitter account as naming the five Reds stars that he has picked for his FIFA Ultimate Team, and one of those is himself.

Van Dijk, 28, captained the Netherlands to a 3-1 Euro 2020 qualifying win on Thursday night over Northern Ireland, and has continued his marvellous 2018-19 form this time around – helping Liverpool win all eight league games.

The former Southampton and Celtic defender has already clocked up 84 appearances for Liverpool since joining the club from the Saints for £75million in January 2018, scoring eight goals and has even laid on five assists.

Many would agree that Liverpool’s best players include Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, but van Dijk has ignored those players when picking his Ultimate Team – including four other Liverpool players and himself in his FIFA side.

“I have Ultimate Team,” van Dijk said. “I can only say my Liverpool players. Alisson, myself, Trent Alexander-Arnold, [Gini] Wijnaldum and [Mo] Salah. Liverpool are very good on FIFA, I think they’re going to be even better this year.”

Van Dijk clocked up 90 minutes for the Netherlands on Thursday, and is expected to do the same when Ronald Koeman’s side travel to Belarus in the Euro 2020 qualifying clash on Sunday afternoon.

The colossal defender will then return to Anfield ahead of Sunday’s huge clash against Manchester United, which will take place on Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford.
