Virgil van Dijk makes Elland Road claim Leeds fans will love

Virgil van Dijk has suggested that Elland Road has a great atmosphere as the Liverpool star named Leeds United’s home as one of his favourite stadiums away from Anfield.

Leeds are obviously in their second season back in the Premier League. However, this has been a vastly different campaign with fans back inside stadiums after the large majority of last season was played behind closed doors.

Van Dijk was part of the Liverpool side who travelled to Leeds back in September. On that occasion, the Reds absolutely took the bragging rights with a 3-0 win.

Obviously, the result was not what the large majority of fans wanted. However, it would certainly appear that the game left a lasting impression on the Dutchman.

The centre-back was asked by Amazon to name his favourite Premier League grounds other than Anfield. And amongst those van Dijk picked out was Elland Road, with the Liverpool star noting that it has a ‘great atmosphere’.

Elland Road has big role to play in Leeds’ next two Premier League games

This week has the potential to be a huge one for Leeds. They host Aston Villa and Norwich at Elland Road in the next four days.

The Villa game is going to be incredibly difficult. But that clash with Norwich could have massive implications for their season. Certainly, it feels as though the Whites cannot afford to drop points against the Canaries.

The Elland Road crowd have a big role to play. They stuck by the team throughout the latter stages of Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure.

They sang his name towards the end of their defeat to Manchester United. And they rarely voiced their discontent in the decisive loss to Tottenham.

Jesse Marsch is yet to build the same kind of relationship with the fans. But two wins at Elland Road this week would undoubtedly be a brilliant start.
