Virgil van Dijk left so impressed by £43m Liverpool target at the World Cup yesterday

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may be hoping Virgil van Dijk can do some behind-the-scenes work to help with their transfer business.

The Dutchman finally lead his side out at a major tournament after missing last year’s European Championships through injury.

The Netherlands came away from a tough match against Senegal with a 2-0 win.

Their opposition were without key player and Van Dijk’s old teammate Sadio Mane due to injury.

It was an even game up to the final ten minutes when Louis Van Gaal’s side finally broke the deadlock.

A sumptuous ball into the box was met by Cody Gakpo, who beat Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in the air.

Gakpo flicked the ball over the stranded Mendy and gave his side the lead.

Everton fans will recognise the name who scored the second goal as Davy Klaassen sealed the win.

Van Dijk was very impressed with Gakpo as the forward took to social media to celebrate his side’s win.

Gakpo came away with the player of the match award after a fantastic World Cup debut.

Van Dijk left seriously impressed by Gakpo

The 23-year-old took to Instagram to celebrate his team’s win yesterday.

Gakpo shared a number of pictures, the first of which was him celebrating with Van Dijk.

The Liverpool defender replied with a fire emoji, and was clearly impressed with Gakpo.

The PSV Eindhoven has been quite simply sensational this season, and already has more than 10 goals and assists in all competitions.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that it would take just £43m to sign Gakpo from the Dutch club.

Gakpo has also been linked with Arsenal, and it’s no surprise England’s top clubs are after him.

PSV might start to think about demanding even more money for their prized forward if he has a good World Cup.

Gakpo is showing he can perform on the biggest stage and will be vital to the Netherlands’ success in Qatar.

The likes of Vincent Janssen, Luke de Jong and Wout Weghorst have never been prolific strikers.

Gakpo’s goals and assists have left Van Dijk and potentially Jurgen Klopp very impressed already.
