Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has showered praise on Anfield teammate Fabinho, who produced yet another superb display at the weekend.
The Brazilian was outstanding against Manchester City on Sunday, and scored a cracking goal from outside the area to open the scoring.
The 2018 signing from AS Monaco was everywhere for the Reds, snuffing out City attacks and recycling possession for the hosts.
Since signing for Liverpool, Fabinho has developed into one of Europe’s top midfielders, and his contributions are certainly not lost on van Dijk.
He said (Evening Standard): “He has been fantastic.
“He has been cleaning up so many things and so many dangerous moments and everyone is playing their part in the success we have at the moment.
“Sometimes it gets [overlooked] what he does; it is important for him and us to get the goal.”
TBR’s view – Fabinho now essential for Liverpool
Fabinho has to be one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp’s teamsheet at the moment.
Quite simply, Liverpool don’t have another player quite like him in their squad.
His intelligence is seemingly what sets him apart from most other players in his position. His ability to sense danger at the earliest opportunity and get himself in the right position is second to none.
Not only that, but Fabinho’s passing ability is just as polished, and the fact that he can act as a deep-lying playmaker as well makes him a truly outstanding footballer, who must be a dream for a centre-half to play behind.
