Vinicius Junior’s previously reported Arsenal stance makes January transfer seem unlikely

Arsenal have recently been linked with a potential move for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior in a bid to save their lamentable season so far.

As reported by the Daily Star, Arsenal are hopeful of a loan move for the immensely talented Brazilian in January who is currently on the fringes at Real Madrid.

But if the events of 2019 are anything to go by, Arsenal can forget about it.

As detailed by MARCA last November, Arsenal, and PSG both made a move for Vinicius Jr last August.

But not only did Real Madrid reject the interest, but Vinicius Jr was not interested either.

The report claimed that Vinicius was committed to making his project at Real work. There was also talk of Arsenal making a move in January of 2020.

However, the report made it clear that Vinicius was not open to the idea of a loan move away from Real Madrid at the midpoint of the season, a detail which could be most telling.

It also claimed that he was not keen on a move to a ‘lesser club’. Whilst Arsenal might have been able to claim parity with Real Madrid at one point, that is clearly no longer the case.

Clearly, Arsenal are fond of Vinicius. The Gunners had tried to beat Real Madrid to his signing before the youngster made the reported (Telegraph) £38 million move to the Bernabeu in 2017.

It is hard to see Vinicius wanting to make the move to Arsenal now, considering they now appear to be in an even worse position than they were this time last year.

Arsenal might be best off looking at more realistic options to help turn their season around.
