Vinicius Jr has released a statement addressing his actions during and after Real Madrid’s meeting with FC Barcelona on Sunday.

Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 in the latest instalment of El Clasico, with the Brazilian taking the headlines post-match.

Vinicius Jr was an unhappy figure after being taken off in the 72nd minute of the tie, and after he and some of his teammates clashed with Barcelona players post-match, he has now released a statement.

It reads: “Today I want to apologize to all the Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clásico. Just as I have already done in person during today’s training, I also want to apologize again to my teammates, the club, and the president.

“Sometimes passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive character stems from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents.

“I promise to keep fighting every second for the good of Real Madrid, as I have done since the first day.”

Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool can sign Vinicius Jr

His outburst after being hooked over the weekend comes amid a growing uncertainty over his future at Real Madrid.

TBR Football correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that the 25-year-old has been told by Los Blancos that he will be sold by Madrid this summer if he does not put pen to paper on a new deal.

In the Premier League, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool have the capacity to sign the player.

Bailey said: “There’s only a handful of clubs who can get him. I’m told he doesn’t want to go to Saudi Arabia. In England, there’s only Chelsea, City and Liverpool.”
