Vincent Janssen made a shock return to action yesterday, featuring for Tottenham Hotspur’s under-23s against their Liverpool counterparts. The game finished 1-1, with Janssen playing 45 minutes. It comes after a lengthy absence due to a foot injury.
Not only is it a surprising return to action, but also a timely one.
Tottenham Hotspur clearly need to shift some of the deadwood off their books. Janssen is one such player. Whilst not on massive wages, the £18.6 million 2016 signing from AZ Alkmaar clearly has no future at Spurs.
He has struggled to find form in English football and last season was turfed out on loan to Fenerbahce.
Now he is on his way back to playing regularly, Tottenham might actually have a chance of finding a January buyer.

This summer, with doubts over his fitness and Tottenham at their limit of foreign players, Janssen was left out of the club’s Premier League squad.
Spurs clearly need to raise some funds and also remove some of the foreign talent from the ranks and bring in more homegrown players. It seems Mousa Dembele could be on his way and Janssen should swiftly follow.
After his struggles at Tottenham, getting a fee in the region of what they initially paid will be impossible. However, any amount will surely do now for a player who Tottenham must get off the wage bill this month.
