It was a bad day at the office for Rangers yet again last night. Their reign at the top of the Scottish table did not even last a week as they lost 1-0 to Aberdeen at Ibrox. Steven Gerrard’s men are now behind Kilmarnock in the table.
But whilst Rangers, reduced to 10 men yet again, were struggling, a result in Spain highlights some of the good work they have done this season.
Villarreal ran rampant in the Copa Del Rey last night. They absolutely thrashed Almeria 8-0 at the Estadio de la Ceramica. Four goals from Karl Toko Ekambi helped them on their way to the convincing win, which secured an 11-3 aggregate progression.

Almeria are no mugs. They currently sit 12th in Spain’s second division, technically only 16 places below the struggling La Liga outfit.
Rangers have played the Yellow Submarine, who have players like Santi Cazorla, Ramiro Funes Mori and Carlos Bacca in their ranks, twice this season. The Scottish side have managed to avoid defeat on both occasions, a 2-2 draw in Spain followed by a 0-0 at Ibrox.
Considering Villarreal’s clear capability to hand out a pasting, Rangers fans must consider this as a serious progression from Gerrard’s side – even if the domestic form is inconsistent.
