Aston Villa are to be investigated by the Premier League over the sale of Villa Park to the club’s owners as part of their Financial Fair Play assessment, according to the Sun.
When they were in the Championship in May, Villa apparently sold the stadium to £56.7 million owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.
And the Premier League are reportedly looking into it to see if it breached FFP rules, but it is very important to point out that Villa say that the checks are nothing out of the ordinary.
They say that the investigation forms part of the checks that every Premier League club faces to make sure they’re sustainable – meaning that the supporters don’t need to worry.
TBR’s Opinion – Villa’s fans shouldn’t be too concerned
In general, once a club gets into the Premier League and become sustainable with the huge influx of money promotion brings, FFP concerns tend to melt away.
Villa say that the sale was nothing worth investigating – and there’s no reason to doubt that – and in any case, they are now highly likely to be sustainable because of the cash injection being in the top flight brings.
Villa have been poorly managed in the past but this is a new era now.
