Aston Villa’s hopes of landing Neal Maupay have seemingly been boosted, with Sheffield United having tied up a £10 million deal for Lys Mousset (BBC Sport).
The Blades have snapped up the Frenchman from Bournemouth on a three-year deal and made him the most expensive signing in their history.

He is Chris Wilder’s fifth signing of the summer after Callum Robinson, Luke Freeman, Phil Jagielka and Ravel Morrison.
The deal for Mousset would suggest that United will now end their pursuit of Brentford striker Neal Maupay – potentially leaving Aston Villa in the clear over the Frenchman.
TBR’s view
The £10 million transfer is surely great news for Villa, who are thought to be chasing one more striker before the window closes in a few weeks.

It would appear that United’s interest (The Sun) in Maupay has passed, leaving Dean Smith to perhaps seal a move for a striker he of course knows very well from his time at Griffin Park.
Ominously, he was recently sent home from Brentford’s pre-season tour of Austria and was left out against Wycombe Wanderers.
Maupay plundered 28 goals in all competitions last term, suggesting he could be a good signing for Villa’s first season back in the Premier League.
