Video: What Tottenham's Cristian Romero whispered into Lionel Messi's ear on the pitch right after winning the World Cup

A video on Teledeporte’s official Twitter account has revealed what Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero whispered into Lionel Messi’s ear right after winning the World Cup

Romero played a key role in Argentina’s winning campaign in Qatar and was solid at the back throughout the tournament.

The Tottenham star featured in every single game under Lionel Scaloni and was only dropped to the bench on one occasion in the group stages.

The 24-year-old seemed to relish such a big occasion yesterday as Argentina managed to overcome France on penalties after drawing 3-3.

The game will arguably go down as the best World Cup final ever, despite the fact La Albiceleste were in complete control for the majority of the game.

Argentina came flying out the blocks and goals from Messi and Angel Di Maria put them in a commanding position in the first-half. But Kylian Mbappe took matters into his own hands for France and bagged a dramatic brace in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Romero and Argentina were forced to play another 30 minutes and Messi thought he had won it after his effort in the 17th minute of extra-time. But his Paris Saint-Germain teammate delayed the party once again as he completed his hat-trick from the spot.

Emiliano Martinez proved to be the hero during the penalty shootout and Argentina deservedly lifted the biggest trophy in football after a thrilling affair.

And as Messi was taking in the moment of finally winning the World Cup after such a dazzling career, Romero greeted the PSG star with a massive hug.

What Romero whispered to Messi

Teledeporte posted a video on their official Twitter account which shows Romero sharing an emotional hug with Messi on the pitch.

The Tottenham star can be heard saying: ”Te lo merecias,” which translates to “you deserved it” in English.

Romero looked close to tears as he shared the moment with Messi right after Argentina secured a dramatic penalty shootout win.

The centre-back has been solid for Argentina over the past two years and has now helped them to become world champions once again.

Messi is a huge admirer of the Tottenham star and even labelled him ‘extraordinary’ after winning the Copa America last year.

Argentina have rallied around Messi throughout the tournament and provided him with a solid base to do what he does best.

Romero will now return to Hotspur Way as a world champion and there will be mixed emotions in north London when he returns, with Hugo Lloris suffering World Cup agony yesterday.
