Everton are out of the EFL Cup after losing 4-1 at the home of fellow Premier League club Bournemouth last night.
Demarai Gray scored a goal to make it 2-1 in the second half but the game got away from the Toffees and their most realistic route to silverware this season is now closed.
Frank Lampard needed a response from his side after playing really poorly and losing 2-0 against Leicester City on Saturday evening.
But he did not get it on the south coast, with a heavy defeat coming after a performance which was not good enough from his side.

Gray apologised to Everton fans after Bournemouth loss
Gray’s goal offered fleeting hope and he did go over and apologise to the Everton fans at the end of the game on a chastening night.
Lampard has done a good job of fostering a connection with the Toffees fans during his reign and that should help them stick with him and the squad.
But they do not want too many nights or performances like this, and they face the same opponents on the same ground at the weekend.
That offers an instant chance for revenge and an opportunity to go into the World Cup with a good performance and win to lift the mood of the fans.
But another one like this will linger during the unprecedented mid-season break and not do anything for the feeling in the fanbase in the meantime.
Gray will be hoping to get on the scoresheet again on Saturday as Lampard looks for a reaction once more from his side.
