Tottenham Hotspur have a superb talent in their ranks in Alfie Devine.

The 17-year-old, who joined the Spurs academy last year, has already made his senior debut for the Lilywhites.

Jamie Carragher, whose son James came through the Wigan academy, described Devine as “top class” and was “gutted” the Latics didn’t keep him.

Indeed, his goalscoring appearance against Marine in the FA Cup last year made him the youngest player to have turned out – and scored – for Spurs in a senior game.

And last August, Tottenham handed Devine a contract until 2024 as reward for his progress in the N17 ranks.

According to The Athletic, Jose Mourinho told the player that he sees ‘shades of Bruno Fernandes’ in him.

This season, Devine has been playing for the Under-23s, and he already looks a cut above at that level.

In just 12 Premier League 2 appearances, he has registered seven goals and three assists.

Devine has also turned out for the Under-18s, scoring twice in two FA Youth Cup games.

Antonio Conte seems to rate the youngster highly too, as he’s featuring in first-team training.

On Wednesday, Tottenham’s Twitter account shared a clip of Devine scoring a great free kick at Hotspur Way.

Devine looks like a star in the making, but obviously you can’t just throw him in at the deep end.

He’s likely to get more minutes over the course of the season, and then it’ll be interesting to see what Conte has in store for him in summer.

A Championship loan move would be a good call in 2022-23. And if he does well, then he could well go on to become a first-team regular at N17.
