Video: What Antonio Conte actually did straight after Emerson Royal's nightmare miss for Tottenham on Saturday

Tottenham managed to see off Leeds at the weekend in dramatic fashion but not before Emerson Royal had endured another nightmare moment.

The Brazilian defender seems to come under fire most weeks for one reason or another. And this weekend’s clash with Leeds was no exception.

Royal was presented with an absolutely golden chance in the first half. Ben Davies had cut the ball back across goal, leaving Emerson with a wide open chance just 12 yards out. However, Royal blazed over after leaning back way too much and the ball ballooned high into the Spurs fans.

And in this week’s latest edition of Conte Cam released by Tottenham, the manager’s frustration was abundantly clear.

Seen reacting to the miss around 1:10 in the clip, Conte simply looks to the floor in annoyance, raises a hand to his face, and walks slowly back to the dugout. Certainly, it seemed to bother the fiery Italian.

Royal was substituted later on in the game as he was having another poor game. In the end, the introduction of Mat Doherty helped Tottenham back into the game, albeit by the skin of their teeth.

TBR’s View: Surely Emerson Royal is done with Tottenham

There can’t be too many players who seem to be in the public eye for negative reasons week after week.

Emerson Royal seems to have a nightmare moment every single week. Whether it be through switching off defensively or by not contributing going forward. The Brazilian just doesn’t seem to have ‘it’.

The reality for Conte is that he needs better in that right wing-back position. If he doesn’t upgrade Royal, or at least go with Doherty for a prolonged run, then it will end up costing Tottenham.

Ultimately, Royal has had his chances and, when it comes down to it, not taken them. It’s time Spurs moved on.
